The RS3M 2021 is a landmark cube rather than simply a good one. The RS3M 2021 was the first puzzle put into mass production using magnetic levitation in the mechanism, and the whole MagLev generation that followed starts here.
MagLev tensioning has repelling magnets doing the job springs normally do. A spring compression system gives nine settings. The exterior is frosted for grip. The RS3M mechanism is otherwise unchanged from the 2020, which is what made that cube so well liked. A compression tool, screwdriver, display stand and spare compression piece are supplied.
Losing the springs does two things. It removes the friction of a spring compressing against its housing, and it removes the noise entirely, which people notice straight away.
The RS3M 2021 is also reversible. The MagLev magnets come out and springs go back in, so the cube can become a standard RS3M if the levitating feel does not suit you.
Cubes dry out with use and start to feel scratchy. A few drops of MoYu Lube No.1 5ml keeps the turning smooth and slows the wear.
