Skewb is an event where the cheap puzzles used to be genuinely bad, and the RS Skewb Maglev is a large part of why that stopped being true. It has the adjustment range of a much more expensive puzzle.
A MagLev core uses magnetic repulsion in place of springs. The piece magnets are medium to strong, which keeps the puzzle steady through a fast turn. Tension and compression adjust independently. The internal plastic is purple, which sets it apart from the spring version. It weighs 68g against 66g for the standard.
Independent tension and compression is what you are paying for. Skewb turns are large and fast, and firming up the tension without also stiffening the compression stops the puzzle overshooting without making it sluggish.
The RS Skewb Maglev suits a competitive solver as readily as a beginner, which is unusual at this price. The GAN Skewb Standard is lighter and has core magnets, where this is cheaper and more adjustable.
Cubes dry out with use and start to feel scratchy. A few drops of MoYu Lube No.1 5ml keeps the turning smooth and slows the wear.
