The GAN Skewb Enhanced is where most competitive skewb solvers end up. The mechanism is the same as the Standard, but the magnetic layout is four times denser, and on a puzzle solved this fast that changes the feel completely.
The GAN Skewb Enhanced carries thirty-two magnets in GAN’s enhanced core positioning layout. The GES Pro system gives four nut distances and six elasticity levels, so 24 configurations in all. Corner cutting to 90 degrees. The frosted exterior resists fingerprints and gives a medium grip. It weighs 81g, and a GAN box, bag, tuning rod and spare GES nuts are included.
What the extra magnets buy you is auto-alignment. Get a turn most of the way round and they finish it, pulling the puzzle square without you having to correct it. On a skewb, where every turn is a large one, that is the difference between fast and accurate.
On the adjustments, nut distance sets how far the pieces sit from the core. Shorter is tighter and more controlled, longer is looser and faster. Elasticity sets how hard the spring pushes back, which changes how quickly a layer settles.
Against the GAN Skewb Standard the difference is real without being enormous, but this is the better puzzle. Frosted or UV is the only other choice, and that is surface alone. Frosted is matte, UV is glossy and grips a little harder. Neither is faster.
Cubes dry out with use and start to feel scratchy. A few drops of GAN No.1 Lube Maintenance 10ml keeps the turning smooth and slows the wear.
