The Meilong 3M is a real speedcube with magnets and adjustable tension, for the price of a supermarket puzzle that has neither. That combination is why it is the usual answer for a first proper cube.
The Meilong 3M magnets sit in an even layout and are what make the cube hold its alignment at the end of a turn. The frosted stickerless surface means nothing peels and the plastic does not slip. ABS construction, with a display stand and screwdriver in the box.
The step up from an unmagnetised cube is larger than the step from this to a flagship. Magnets stop the layers drifting, so a beginner can build speed without stopping every few moves to straighten the cube.
Above this in our range, the MoYu RS3M V5 (Magnetic, Dual-Adjustment) adds nine levels of elasticity adjustment for a little more.
Cubes dry out with use and start to feel scratchy. A few drops of MoYu Lube No.1 5ml keeps the turning smooth and slows the wear.
