The Meilong Mastermorphix is a 3×3 cut into a tetrahedron. Underneath it is an ordinary cube and the same methods solve it. What changes is that the pieces no longer look like the pieces you are used to, and the puzzle deforms as you scramble it.
That confusion is most of the challenge. On the Meilong Mastermorphix the corners, edges and centres all take unfamiliar forms, and two of the faces behave differently from the other two. Working out the mapping is more of a challenge than the solve itself.
There is also a case that looks like parity, where a centre appears rotated and has to be fixed. It is not real parity, but it catches people out.
A good next step for anyone who has done a mirror cube and wants something harder.
