Smart cubes used to be a compromise, good technology inside a mediocre cube. The GAN356 i Carry 2 changed that, and the battery life is the headline.
Seven hundred hours of battery. Forty-eight magnets. A miniaturised ball core, with the core volume cut by 31.3 per cent to reduce resistance. Custom ball bearings using non-contact magnetic induction, which take pressure off the mechanism and prevent jams. A gravity sensor wakes it with a slight shake instead of a button press. Glossy UV coating.
The GAN356 i Carry 2 app adds real-time battles against other cubers and step-by-step practice built around whichever stage you are working on. There is an algorithm library, and solve tracking that records move counts as well as times.
That tracking is the reason people buy a smart cube rather than a good cube and a timer. Knowing your average is one thing. Knowing where in the solve you lose the time is another. It is a matter of preference, and plenty of solvers are perfectly happy with a stopwatch, but the people who use the app tend to keep using it.
The shake-to-wake sensor on the GAN356 i Carry 2 is a smaller thing that matters daily. Earlier smart cubes needed a deliberate wake sequence, and a cube that is asleep when you start solving records nothing at all.
