The GAN Skewb Enhanced UV is the top of GAN’s three-version skewb range. Buy it if you want the strongest magnetic feel on a surface that grips instead of slides.
Thirty-two magnets in the enhanced core positioning layout, under a glossy UV coating. The GES Pro system gives four nut distances and six elasticity levels, so 24 configurations in all. Corner cutting to 90 degrees. It weighs 81g and comes with a GAN box, bag, tuning rod and spare GES nuts.
What the magnets buy you is auto-alignment. Get a turn most of the way round and they finish it, pulling the puzzle square without you correcting it. On a skewb, where every turn is a large one, that is the difference between fast and accurate.
The two adjustments do different jobs. Nut distance sets how far the pieces sit from the core, so shorter is tighter and more controlled and longer is looser and faster. Elasticity sets how hard the spring pushes back, which changes how quickly a layer settles after a turn.
The UV coating is a clear layer over the plastic rather than a treatment of it. It grips harder, which you notice most in warm hands, and it resists the scuffing that dulls a frosted puzzle over months of daily solving.
Inside, this and the frosted Enhanced are the same puzzle. Same mechanism, same 32 magnets, same 24 settings. All you are choosing is the surface. Glossy and grippy here, matte and fingerprint resistant there, and neither is faster than the other.
Cubes dry out with use and start to feel scratchy. A few drops of GAN No.1 Lube Maintenance 10ml keeps the turning smooth and slows the wear.
