The GAN Robot Arthur is GAN’s second-generation cube robot, and it does two genuinely useful things alongside the obvious party trick.
It solves a paired GAN smart cube in roughly five seconds, and it scrambles the cube to a random state, which is the more useful of the two. It reads the cube’s orientation from any direction, so it does not matter which way you seat it. A five-axis servo system drives five claws that grip the centre caps. The body folds for storage and the lights are changeable.
Scrambling is where the GAN Robot Arthur earns its place. Producing a properly random scramble by hand is slow and easy to get wrong, and doing it over and over for timed practice is worse. The robot does it in seconds, to the exact sequence the app specifies.
The GAN Robot Arthur works with all GAN smart cubes, though older ones need a new set of centre caps to fit the claws. Worth checking before you order if your cube is a few generations back.
It needs a 5V 2A power adapter. Anything less can make it behave unpredictably, which accounts for most of the problems people report.
Setting up means releasing the arms, expanding them to make room, and seating the cube so all five claws grip the centre caps squarely. If a scramble will not run, check that seating first, then the cube’s own battery.
