Most magnetic cubes do one job with their magnets. They pull each layer square at the very end of a turn and do nothing for the rest of it. The GAN 17 MagDrive is built to change that.
GAN call it the Celestial Magnetic-Dynamic System. One hundred and ninety-six magnets are arranged as a magnetic core and three magnetic realms, working right through the rotation. From 0 to 45 degrees the cube pulls back towards where the turn started. From 45 to 90 it drives the layer forward into place.
What that means in your hands is that the cube does more of the work. You start a turn and the magnets carry it, so each move needs less force and finishes more cleanly. Over a long average that is less effort, fewer half-finished turns and fewer corrections at speed.
MagLev tensioning replaces the springs entirely, so there is no spring friction and no noise. Corner-to-core positioning sits behind the auto-alignment, and an omni-support spherical orbit carries the pieces.
Tuning on the GAN 17 MagDrive runs to 72 settings across 12 levels of magnetic elasticity and 6 axle distances, all numbered so a setup can be recorded and rebuilt exactly. The corner magnet rods come in three strengths, and the edge magnet rods come out altogether if you want the edges unmagnetised.
In the box you get the cube, a GAN 17 box, an identity card, a cube bag, a cap opener, a tuning tool, a manual and eight magnet rods.
Cubes dry out with use and start to feel scratchy. A few drops of GAN No.1 Lube Maintenance 10ml keeps the turning smooth and slows the wear.
